The energy system is failing, with ever higher energy bills, carbon emissions not falling fast enough, and far too many homes leaking heat. The Government is failing to take the necessary action and show leadership and action.
Labour wants to see a revolution in energy and make a real difference to people's lives - from investment in renewables, capping bills and reforming the energy market including through public ownership and local accountable energy companies and cooperatives offering an alternative to the big energy suppliers. As part of its energy and housing policy plans, Labour recognises the importance of energy efficiency - saving people money in energy costs and reducing emissions - and has agreed an ambitious £1bn+ plan for energy efficiency across millions of homes.
Alan Whitehead MP, Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister will outline what Labour’s commitment to fund a nationwide government funded insulation scheme entails and chair a private roundtable launching a national discussion on how we make homes more energy efficient, tackle fuel poverty, reduce fuel bills and meet climate change targets. It will bring together a range of organisations and individuals who have a role in shaping the programme, the delivery and reach, including local authorities, energy campaigners and MPs.
